Spleek

Spleeks are tiny pollinators who live in the purple flowering trees in the southeastern forests of Kiah. They have extremely long tongues and are poisonous to predators. They deploy their boney tail fins to spin and slow their descent from trees. Thousands of these tiny critters are losing their habitat on Kiah because of deforestation, and their numbers will likely improve dramatically as the planet recovers from the damage of the past.

Spleeks do not seem to be afraid of other creatures, perhaps because they are poisonous and do not face a lot of predation. They allowed researchers to get quite close when we visited their treetop homes. Up close, they're cute and curious!
