An Eggcellent Hunt

     Today was the day. Today was the day that Roo would find the coveted Sunny Agaric mushroom. Widely known for it's savory flavor and high protein, this mushroom would make an amazing addition to the Stardrop Inn's menu. Roo had heard about it from a small cookbook Cove, their partner, had gotten them from Harbor.

      Roo stepped out of the inn after kissing Cove goodbye, feeling grateful they got some extra help to cover Roo's share of work today. Already quite familiar with Aberion itself, Roo hummed along while following the swaying wooden bridges leading to the forest floor. Many xeros of all shapes passed by, likely grabbing breakfast before the days work. Roo's mind couldn't help but wander to the delicious food they'll be making when they get back.

      Upon finally reaching their destination, Roo paused with uncertainty. What if I run into something? The forest floor is so thick and scary. I just have to be quick in and out. Roo decided with a head nod and pressed onward. 

     Being on the forest floor was such a dangerous treat. Ginormous tree roots danced their way in and out of the ground, tiny waterfalls peeked out from rocks, and the forest was humming with life. There were several mushroom clusters littered about but none seemed to have the delicious gooey center of the Agaric. The roots in the path ahead formed a small opening leading into the cliffside. The rocks of a cave entrance glistened in the small light that was available. 

     Roo's ears perked up at the sight. Surely there's some in there! Mushrooms love the dark. Their pace quickened and they headed in. 

     Inside the cave it was dark, but Roo's eyes adjusted quickly. They could feel their tail start to wag when they spotted a giant cluster of Sunny Agaric mushrooms beaming in the darkness. Roo skipped over with glee, hurriedly getting all their pouches ready. Mushroom after mushroom quickly filled the bag.

     Wait until Cove sees this! Roo thought to themselves, a stupid grin appearing on their face. They hurriedly gathered everything up and tailed it home, taking in the beautiful sights once again. 

     Getting home was pretty easy as Roo had not gone too far in at all. When they appeared in front of Cove, pouches filled, Cove couldn't help but be surprised. 

     "Cove! Cove! I got so many for the inn. I'm so excited to try these out!" Roo opened up their pouch to show their prize when they saw the contents. The mushroom parts were there but the yolk-like substances had all fallen in a sticky mess at the bottom of the pouch. 

     Roo nervously smiled and scratched their head. "Guess I didn't think this one through…" They couldn't help but laugh a little as Cove poked their head over and saw the sight. 

    "Roo! All your work! I'm so sorry. Listen, we'll start the inn a little later tomorrow. Me and you have some shroom hunting." Cove said with a determined smile spreading on their face.
