[Gift] Xeros and Dragons: Ryker's recruitment
Xeros and Dragons
Character Leadup: Ryker
Ryker almost didn’t hear the other Xero walking up behind him. He was occupied watching ships fly past, or park, or take off. Didn’t make much difference to him, just something to look at.
“That was some kind of a mess, huh?” The newcomer said. Ryker didn’t turn his gaze, but his ears flicked in response. He grunted. “Okay, few words. I’ll be straight with you then.” That got Ryker’s attention. The tall, bulky Xero turned to loom over the dark grey and purple furred Xero before him. At first glance she seemed to have a punk aesthetic, but closer inspection showed she just had purple colored highlights for her style. She seemed more equipped like an operative of some sort. But that was where Ryker’s interest ended. “My benefactor would like to meet with you. He has a job, he’s looking for men. Part of the team he needs involves heavy lifting, and potentially violence. Of the defensive sort, obviously.”
Ryker grunted again. “Okay, I’m game,” he said lowly. “What’s the catch? Why the vagueness?”
“Do you normally try to get details?”
“No. But most people are eager to tell me too much.”
“Fortunately for you, Ryker, I know better. I know how to read people decently well, and… to be honest, this benefactor and his organization know too.” Ryker raised an eyebrow and finally stood straight, standing away from the set of crates he’d been resting against. The stranger continued, “For example they know you’re probably wanting to lay low. This job would involve you disappearing from the world for a time. A few times, that that.”
Ryker blinked and shrugged. “Well, I like that sound of that. Where’s the job and when do I start?”
The “operative” snickered and shook her head. “Hop on the next transport to B’haddu. You should have a digital ticket already. Once you get there, a couple contacts will lead you the rest of the way.”
Ryker nodded and started walking. He didn’t need to hear anything more. He knew this was a little sketchy, but this was hardly the sketchiest thing. If it saved him from thinking about how to lay low for the next however many months he needed, he wasn’t going to complain.
Just a little snippet explaining what led from Ryker's normal life to session 1 of Xeros and dragons!
