[Gift] In the cafe

Do you think we will survive the zombies?  Said a Xero just out of ear shot from the one who this story is about. Zombies are only for movies.  He thought as the server filled up his mug he looked at his computerand sighed. Another late night in the cafe. The booth he sat in barely contain his tail. He sipped his coffee. the sweetsap milk and two sugars made him smile. At least the coffee was good. He relaxed a little. Pain then shot from the tip of his tail.
"Could you please keep your tail in the booth." Said the Xero who was now picking theirself up.
"Sorry," He offered a paw to the Xero. The Xero gave a look of death and got on thier feet.  Stratus shifted his tail to be in the booth.
"This is the reason why I think short tails are better." They snarled and stormed off.
"Looks like someone is having a bad night. " The server smiled they had a red and white cake.
"I just ordered coffee." He said as the server placed the cake on to the table.
"Don't worry it's on the house."  The server looked at the mug "Looks like you need a refill." Both got back to work. He sipped his coffee. He tasted the cake. The tang of the frosting hiting his tounge. It was a tasty moment, just him the coffee and that velvety yet rich cake. Then his computer gave a notice, it was his email. He knew avoiding his boss was not a option. Being on the rescue squad was hard work even though he was the one doing the paper work. The email just an unimportant  shift reminder for the ones who were out on the field. He was stuck somewhere doing endless spread sheets and resource transfers. It' was important but boring work.
He wondered how many foragers get lost, as he ate his cake, Soon the fork scraped the plate. The boss started the nightly video call. Stratus had white frosting all over his snout.
"The red velvet cake must have been good." The boss laughed. He was Alurizan with a big beak and thick glasses. Stratus only saw him on the computer. They had never had a meeting in the same place, but that is how some things go.
